The humble beginnings of WKRS trace back to when Charles Evans moved to Alaska 27 years ago. Here in Alaska, Charles fell in love with the land, the water, the fishing, and his wife. He also met a friend and long time Alaska resident, who showed him how to smoke salmon and shared the secrets of his special recipe. Charles took that recipe and made it his own – the recipe that when you try and will doubtlessly love as much as we do.


Charles began smoking fish in small batches in a tiny “Big Chief” smoker. Over 20 years, he perfected his technique and the recipe evolved. With time, our smoked salmon became a cherished family gift to friends and relatives during the holidays. People loved it. Reports began to return that Charles’ smoked salmon was the best people had ever tasted! In recent years, salmon lovers started urging Charles to make a commercial product.


Still, Charles couldn’t find the commercially caught salmon on the market that matched his standards for quality and care. Without the salmon, it didn’t make sense to give his time. He waited over five years for the right time to arrive.
